Into this international game, the Bears and Jaguars hope to build on their victories in Week 5.
In the Bears’ home game against the Carolina Panthers last week, Caleb Williams passed for 304 yards and two touchdowns, helping the team to its first two-game winning streak of the year. Now, he wants to lead Chicago to its first winning run of three games in a row since 2020.
Meanwhile, in a victory over the visiting Indianapolis Colts, Trevor Lawrence recorded 371 passing yards and two touchdowns to help the Jaguars end their four-game losing run that began the season.
To put pressure on the Jaguars’ unsteady pass defense, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron of Chicago is probably going to rely on Williams’ passing accuracy, which has increased during his rookie season thus far, as well as top receiver DJ Moore. Just two NFL teams, including Jacksonville, have given up more than 1,500 passing yards to rival offenses in their first five games.
Conversely, the Bears have been quite successful at reducing the passing options available to their opponents. It will be more difficult for Lawrence to replicate his Week 5 effort against Chicago than it was against Indianapolis. Tank Bigsby, who has ran for two touchdowns in Jacksonville’s last two games, and running back Travis Etienne Jr. could be the Jaguars’ main offensive weapons against the Bears
The Jaguars benefit from a track record of accomplishment in international competitions. Jacksonville has a 6-5 record overall in London. The team started the previous season 1-2 in the series before winning two straight games against the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons.
This fall, Jacksonville will host a comparable international back-to-back. Next Sunday, Lawrence and the Jaguars will travel back to London to play the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in Week 7.
